President Kim Il Sung has bequeathed to us a glorious legacy of resolute struggle for national independence, democracy and socialism against Imperialism and all reaction. His revolutionary record of 70 years is a brilliant inspiration not only to the Korean people but also to all mankind.

Julie and I convey our most heartfelt condolences to the Columban Sisters and Family of Sister Mary Radcliffe. As missionary, she served the Filipino people well, including political prisoners like us during the Marcos dictatorship. She worked with Task Force Detainees, Contak (for international solidarity) and the urban and rural missionaries. Long live her memory and good works! May these inspire future generations to emulate her example!

For the first time in the history of the NDFP, we refrained for about a year (2016-17) from denouncing the Duterte regime as a puppet reactionary regime to give it a chance to prove what Duterte meant by proclaiming himself to being ¨Left¨ and ¨socialist¨; being against the US and the oligarchy; and being for reforms and for an independent foreign policy.

This commemoration of the Easter Uprising celebrates and remembers the heroes of the Irish national liberation struggle as also heroes of the working class, so that we might all use their example as paving stones for the road ahead towards socialism

I congratulate the Youth for Food Sovereignty for organizing this First International Rural Youth Assembly to highlight the struggles of the rural youth in semi-colonial and semi-feudal countries in their particular situation as rural youth and the close link of their struggles with the over-all struggle of their people for national freedom and democracy. In the semi-colonial and semi-feudal countries of Asia, Latin America and Africa, the rural youth comprise the majority of the rural labor force and a big part of the country’s population.

The youth has always played an important role in progressive movements fighting for societal change throughout the world. That is why the founding congress of Pemuda Baru Indonesia is a welcome development in the struggle of the Indonesian youth as well as the struggle of the Indonesian people for national freedom and democracy against imperialism and local reaction.

Atas nama pimpinan dan seluruh anggota Liga Internasional Perjuangan Rakyat (ILPS), saya menyampaikan salam solidaritas militant dan sehangat-hangatnya kepada Pemuda Baru Indonesia (PEMBARU), berkenaan dengan kongres pembentukannya dari 25 sampai 27 Maret, 2018, dengan tema:” Membangun Organisasi Pemuda Nasional Demokratis untuk Mendorong Maju Perjuangan Pemuda dan Rakyat”.

Imperialism is not just about war and invading and bombing countries, as the US military machine has done in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Vietnam, Korea and so my other countries around the world. It is not just about the CIA overthrowing democratic governments, as it has done in so many countries, and is now trying to do in Venezuela.

You have been able to scan the horizon and raise your arms and spirit to the heavens because your feet are firmly on the ground and you voice out the crying needs, urgent demands and aspirations of the Filipino people
